Sjálfsbjörg, the National Confederation of Physically Disabled People was established in 1959. The goal of Sjálfsbjörg Confederation is to fight for full equality of physically disabled people in Iceland and to inform the public about the circumstances of physically disabled people. To reach this goal, Sjálfsbjörg Confederation cooperates with the government, municipalities, various interest groups, and individuals in Iceland. Despite improvements for disabled people over the years, there is still a long way to go to reach full equality.
