FC Sækó or "Insane football" is a project that has existed since 2011. In the beginning, it was a joint project of Reykjavík City's welfare department, National Hospital of Iceland and Clubhouse Hlutverkasetur. The project was run by employees from there. The goal of the project is to promote the health and activity of a group of people who struggle with mental disorders. The practical value of the project has been shown, among other things, in the increased social skills of the participants. Social isolation is one of the things that often accompanies people with mental illnesses, and participation in social activities such as soccer means a lot to many. The project has contributed to the reduction of prejudice towards persons with mental disorders, both by themselves and by others. The group that attends football practice regularly has about 20 people, so the need for such activity is great. The participation and interest of the employees and the cooperation of everyone is also very important. It is quite clear that this project is both health-promoting and recovery-motivating, and therefore extremely important for users. This activity has become one of the highlights of the week for many project participants.
